Until now I did never kill any silicon based device by repair, use or even touch. Not even an Amiga 060/PPC card or the Minimig ;)
Important is the point of view: When you (your body) and the electronic part is at the same electric charge level, there will be no danger at all. Dangerous is to discharge through the electronic component.

Most ppl. take this matter too important. Sure one should not become careless but also not afraid or overcautious.

I just read that the new boards are on their way.
Will they be sold fully populated?

I think this board will be necessary to follow-up Minimig and other new platform.
Even if not assembled, I would purchase one :)
