So I wanted to use a real joystick and mouse on my DE1, and since I don't have any way of fabbing PCBs yet, I made a stripboard layout to do the job. In case anyone else finds it useful I'll share it here:

And a couple of photos of the finished article - just waiting for an enclosure now... :)

would you sell me one of those? I've been trying to get one of those adapters for years now and yours seems to be really well done.
would it work with the 1ChipMSX port by CARO?

thanks!!

Yeah I'm sure I could do that - provided there's no deadline and I can put it together when I have time.

I have no idea, to be honest. Where can I find this port, and does it have source available?

You can find this (AWESOME) core here:

http://www.caro.su/msx/ocm_de1.htm

It has sourcecode available :)

Excellent! I'll take a closer look later, but at a quick glance it appears to use the same joystick / mouse wiring as the Minimig port, so the adapter should work.

Edit: There are differences in the DB9 wiring after all. I'm not yet 100% sure, but I *think* the adapter will work as is, but only with Commodore/Atari-wired joysticks, not MSX-wired joysticks. There'd be no sound either, by the way. (Does the core not output sounds via the DE1's inbuilt codec?)

I need the adaptor for Commodore/Atari joysticks: I have no MSX joysticks nor am I interested in them :)
And yes, the core outputs sound via the DE1's inbuilt codec: it sounds awesome btw, specially with SCC games souch as Snatcher or the Konami Collection disks :) )
You should try the core, if you've got time: you're going to like it if you have a DE1.

Yup - I definitely want to try it out! Is there an "Idiot's Guide to getting started with MSX" or some suggested games that would help me figure out where to start? (since I've only ever seen one MSX machine, and never played with one in depth...)

I can send you my MSX SD card's contents if you want. It includes the latest MSX-DOS along with cartidge dump loaders, DSK image loaders and all kind of utils, demos and of course countless classic MSX, MSX2 and MSX2+ games.
Then you can copy it to a FAT16-formatted sd and you're set.
I'm sure you can use MSX-DOS commands.

Is there a mail address I can send you the TAR file to? ;)
